World Malayalee Council Launches New Zealand Province in Auckland

Auckland: The World Malayalee Council (WMC) officially launched its New Zealand Province at a meeting held in Auckland in the presence of WMC Global and Regional leaders.

WMC Global President Dr. Babu Stephen inaugurated the new Province and delivered the inaugural address. He said the formation of the New Zealand Province would further strengthen WMC’s global network and create new opportunities for the Malayalee community across the country.

A strong executive committee was constituted to lead the activities of the new Province:

• Vice President: Shan Shaji Kumar
• Secretary: Bency Francis
• Joint Secretary: Simson Abraham
• Treasurer: Sreekanth Kurungot
• National Coordinator: Shajan Mathew
• Arts and Women’s Coordinator: Aparna Shyam
• Sports and Charity Coordinator: Nixon Felix
• Youth Coordinator: Avin Joy

The following Area Coordinators were also appointed:

• Whangārei: Jency Gabriel
• Rotorua: Melvin George
• New Plymouth: Jinson Joseph
• Napier: Shaiju Thaikandy
• Wellington: Deepak Francis
• Christchurch: Darbit Thomas
• Dunedin: Shine John

WMC Far East Asia–Australia Region President Kiran James said that the expansion of WMC, which has a presence in 53 countries, into New Zealand would greatly benefit the Malayalee community in the country.

WMC Global General Secretary Shaji Mathew and Global Vice President (Administration) James Koodal also addressed the gathering.

New Zealand Province President Robin K. Babu said the Province aims to unite Malayalees throughout New Zealand and provide leadership for social, cultural, charitable, youth and community-oriented initiatives.

WMC Global Chairman Thomas Mottekkal, Global President Dr. Babu Stephen, Global General Secretary Shaji Mathew, Global Treasurer Sunny Veliyath, Global Vice President (Administration) James Koodal, Global Advisory Board Chairman T. P. Vijayan, and Global Vice President and Far East Asia–Australia Region In-Charge Ajoy Kallenkunnil congratulated the newly elected office-bearers and extended their best wishes to the New Zealand Province.

Far East Asia–Australia Region Chairman Sajith Girijan, Regional President Kiran James, and Regional Secretary Jayachandran Madhavan also congratulated the new leadership team and assured their full support for the Province’s future activities.
